The meaning of being in a cultural fraternity is that the brothers of Pi Delta Psi are constantly learning from and teaching each other about Asian cultures and traditions as a way to enrich the brotherhood as a whole. In fact, the pledging process for our fraternity involves a lot of cultural education, both about your own culture and the cultures of the brothers. The cultural aspect of Pi Delta Psi gives each of the brothers an incredible wealth of resources to learn from, and to spread their own education and understanding.

What is Culture?
Culture is not just the language we speak, the clothes we wear, or even the food we eat, though these are important aspects of any culture. Instead, Culture is about the intrinisical values and beliefs specific to a people that are passed on from generation to generation.

Why is Culture important?
There are many problems and difficulties stemming from cultural differences in the world. Gaining this insight into Culture will spark an appreciation and knowledge of why people are the way they are. Understanding Culture is important in our interactions in daily life and helps us lead a knowledgeable life.

** Imagine an American businessman wanting to shake the hand of a Japanese businessman, not knowing physical contact is limited and in cases considered offensive in the Japanese culture.

Culture and PDPsi
Pi Delta Psi is the FIRST and LARGEST Asian Cultural Fraternity in the United States. Our Culture creates a natural bond in us, but it also helps us strive together towards a common goal. Through learning our culture and heritage we can improve our surroundings through active promotion as leaders in the community.

Culture is not a subject you study in Sociology. It is an obligation to yourself, your heritage, and community. It is the responsibility of all, and only with intervention can culture be passed down for future generations.
