Frequently Asked Questions
How do I join?
Like other Greek organizations, Pi Delta Psi holds Rush events at the beginning of every semester. During these events, potential members are encouraged to meet the Brothers and get a glimpse of what Fraternity life is like. At the end of Rush, potential members are granted a bid to continue forth in our induction process. If the bid is accepted, potential members then undergo an education process that familiarizes individuals with the Fraternity and our ideals.
Why should I join a Fraternity?
Although Fraternity life might not be for everyone, participation in a Fraternity will have a significant impact on your college experience. Pi Delta Psi encourages their members to strive for Excellence in all their endeavors. With a focus on our four pillars: Academic Achievement, Cultural Awareness, Righteousness, and Friendsihp/Loyalty, we help our members grow into well-rounded adults. Additionally, the Fraternity will give members the opportunity to network with students from across the Nation. The Asian American Greek community is very interconnected, allowing members from various organizations to know one another. Also, pledging itself is a once-in-a-lifetime experience worth experiencing.
Do you only accept Asians?
Pi Delta Psi is an Asian-interest cultural fraternity that seeks to educate others about our different heritages. One of the best ways to learn about these cultures is to pledge Pi Delta Psi. Anybody from any ethnicity who is interested in learning more about Asian culture and who has a desire to help spread cultural understanding is welcome in our fraternity. Pi Delta Psi has Asian, Caucasian, Latino, and African-American brothers across the nation, and members of Pi Delta Psi are proud to call men of any ethnicity who complete the pledging process their brother.
Isn't there more to college than a fraternity?
Yes. Although the fraternity opens the student up to a limitless amount of activities and events, we do not see fraternity life as a replacement for other activities on campus, but the perfect complement. Becoming a member of Pi Delta Psi would in no way ever stop you from participating in other organizations; in fact, many of our brothers are members of other student associations and regularly interact with and deal with several organizations on campus.
How would fraternity life affect my grades?
Fraternity life should in no way hurt your grades; in fact, in many ways it can help. Pi Delta Psi knows that students come to OSU to receive an education, and as such, the fraternity does everything it can to help the academic success of its brothers. One of the pillars of Pi Delta Psi is Academic Achievement. The fraternity is also a valuable academic resource for its brothers, as brothers are often able to help each other with their classes.
How long is the pledging process?
Face it, not everyone is the same and different people have different needs. We try to set the length based on personal performance throughout your pledging process. If you think about it, we have rush every semester, so take a guess how long it can be.
Do you just drink and party all the time?
No. There is more to life than just partying. If you think all we do is party like what you see on television or like what you heard from your friends, well... you're completely wrong.
How expensive is rushing/pledging/being a part of PDPsi?
Our membership dues are extremely affordable. We do not intend to garner a profit from our members. Rather all dues and cost return to our members in some form. Additionally, Rush is absolutely free to all prospective members. |
Mission
The mission of Pi Delta Psi Fraternity, Inc. is to maintain its Fraternal existence by instilling values that nurture and perpetuate the continual growth and development of the individual through Academic Achievement, Cultural Awareness, Righteousness, Friendship and Loyalty while fostering ethical behavior, leadership, and philanthropy.
Pi Delta Psi was founded on these principles to help promote Asian Awareness amongst ourselves and throughout the community. We envisioned this to be possible by going out of the boundaries of an organization and creating a Fraternity on the basis of common goals and ideals in the form of a brotherhood. We believe that through education, we can become more knowledgeable about the different Asian cultures, overcome obstacles of racism and discrimination, therefore unifying us as a whole.
This mission statement embodies the purpose of our Fraternity and is set forth as a guide that empowers each member to better himself, the Brotherhood, community, and society as a whole.
Fraternity History
Pi Delta Psi Fraternity was founded by eleven men from various backgrounds (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Filipino and Vietnamese). Already established leaders within their own university sponsored cultural organizations, these men assembled to devise a structure that would create an understanding between the various Asian cultures, build relationships extending beyond the academic years and most importantly, finding and building an individual's skill sets. These eleven men envisioned an infrastructure that would continuously motivate and challenge individuals. This infrastructure of a fraternal society, which has been around since 1776 would become the building blocks of their endeavor.
Pi Delta Psi was founded on February 20, 1994 in Binghamton University, State University of New York. The eleven men were responsible for architecting the guiding principles, which have now developed into one of the nation's largest Asian Cultural Interest Fraternities. Over the next three years (1994-1996), Pi Delta Psi had expanded into the University at Buffalo and Hofstra University. Every expansion resulted in positively impacting the school and surrounding community.
By 2000, Pi Delta Psi had expanded to 11 prestigious campuses spanning four states, setting a record for the fastest growing organization of its kind since inception. With a fierce growth in the brotherhood and a strengthened alumni base, the fraternity rebuilt its National Council in 1999, standardizing Pi Delta Psi throughout all its chapters.
Today, the Fraternity continues to grow in size and prestige. What began as a dream for the eleven founders, has become the work and dedication of hundreds across the country and across seas. History of the Mu Chapter
In 1998, Mr. Hubert Ho and Mr. Kevin Chiu sought to promote brotherhood and leadership amongst Asians at The Ohio State University. These two men realized the Fraternal structure would provide the best way to accomplish their goals.
For two years, Hubert Ho and Kevin Chiu led Interest Group meetings, researched Asian Greek life, attended Rush Events and put forth the extreme effort needed to bring an Asian Fraternity to campus.
By early 2000, Hubert Ho and Kevin Chiu's efforts had paid off after receiving a prestigious bid to pledge with Pi Delta Psi Fraternity. These two men faced obstacle after obstacle, but no hardship would deter nor break apart their united strength.
On April 22, 2000, Hubert Ho and Kevin Chiu crossed as Alpha Pledge Class: Founding Fathers of the Ohio State Colony. Their goal had been realized, but their journey into Brotherhood had only begun. |
